In the darkness of the empire,
St. Benedict opening his heart to God,
opened a way
that kept christendom safe from the darkness,
the hordes of unbelievers,
the destruction of all that once was,
who brought the light of God to the unknowing,
who strengthened the heart of men.
O Lord,
May your servant Benedict XVI,
facing the new hordes in the new darkness,
facing the hostile masses
who deny your goodness,
lead us successfully to the light which is you.
Amen.
Holy Father Benedict, blessed by God in grace and in name. While standing in prayer with your hands raised to Heaven, you most happily yielded your angelic spirit into the hands of your Creator. You promised zealously to defend against the snares of the enemy, in the last struggle of death, those who remind you daily of your glorious departure and your heavenly joys. Protect us this day and everyday by your holy blessing, that we may never be separated from our blessed Lord, from the company of yourself and all the blessed. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
God our Father, you made St. Benedict an outstanding guide to teach men how to live in your service. Lord, in honor of St. Benedict, encourage the hearts of the faithful who have followed his model and chosen the life of the religious. Strengthen their hearts in time of trial, and encourage them always to hold true to their commitment.
Especially, Lord, we ask your guidance and care for Benedict XVI, who you have raised up to be your servant and pastor your church. May, like St. Benedict, he be a light to your church and a treasure for your people.
Amen
